Credit Scoring: The Principles and Practicalities

Murray Bailey is the Managing Director of Windsor Consulting and has 20 years of building and managing scorecards. Murray held senior credit posts at HFCBank, Citibank  and GE Consumer Finance and managed Credit Risk, Collections as well as customer strategy initiatives. Murray's academic background is Physics and Maths at Southampton and St John's College, Cambridge. His initial training was as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand.

Jake Betts is a consultant at Windsor Consulting. He joined in 1998 and has developed scoring and strategy decision systems.  Before qualifying in C++ and VB programming, Jake initially trained as an electrical engineer before joining Brents working in project management and contracting at Southern Water. Jake is a core part of the training team at Windsor Consulting and has developed many of the modules used for the business simulations.

Philippa Cowie is a consultant at PIC Solutions and has over 5 years risk management and ICT experience in the retail and financial services industries at Truworths, the Foschini Group, Triple-S Computers and Euro Asia Trading Co. Ltd. (UK & Germany). In her previous risk management roles at Truworths and the Foschini Group, she was responsible for the implementation of new application score cards, specification of new business processing systems & procedures, TRIAD strategy design and the implementation of fraudprevention techniques. She holds a B. Business Science from the University of Cape Town.

Bayan Dekker is the Analytics Director of PIC Solutions. He has over 15 years experience in IT and credit risk management in the retail and financial services industries and has held senior posts at The Foschini Group and Woolworths Financial Services. In his previous positions he has enjoyed the responsibility for credit product development and credit risk management, and has extensive experience with account management and processing systems. He holds a B. Accounting (University of Stellenbosch) and a Diploma in Datametrics (UNISA).

Stephen Denby graduated with a B.Sc. in Economics in 1980 and then joined HFC.  He continually held various positions within the credit industry until 1994 when he joined Experian. He has a wealth of knowledge of the development implementation and application of risk management techniques and strategies across the customer life cycle.  Stephen is currently Consultancy Services Director of the Information Solutions division of Experian where he and his team work with clients to develop their business through the definition and implementation of information based customer management solutions.

Chris Hoyland. As Managing Partner of Statistical Decisions since its creation in 1992, Chris Hoyland has developed it into a Global player, adding subsidiaries in Singapore and Athens and assembling an impressive client list of leading Global financial institutions. Chris has been constantly at the forefront of technological and methodology evolution in scoring and predictability techniques. Prior to forming Statistical Decisions, Chris was Vice President of Citibank responsible for the management of credit scores in Europe. Chris started working life, lecturing and researching at the London School of Economics. He has written articles and has spoken at numerous international seminars and conferences.

David Kindred. At the time of writing, David was a Senior Consultant at Equifax. He has extensive knowledge and experience of building and managing scorecard developments across a plethora of diverse industries and product ranges gained over 10 years within the industry. David was previously Scorecard Development Manager at Abbey National where he developed numerous models for the Retail Bank, whilst undertaking consultancy, implementing customer strategy initiatives, utilising profitability models and developing behaviour scoring strategies. David graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in Mathematics. David is now in the Value Management tean at Barclaycard

Alan Lucas. At the time of writing, Alan was the Director of New Technologies for Equifax, managing a team of individuals researching and developing New Technology solutions to credit and marketing problems. Alan graduated in maths at Manchester University and had operational research roales before joining UDT in 1983. He has also worked at Scorelink and Barclaycard and is acknowledged in the industry as an expert in the field of credit scoring, having been a leading force in turning scorecard building and monitoring into a centre of excellence. Alan now provides consultancy services.

Eva Neves is a Senior Consultant at PIC Solutions with over 9 years of risk management experience in both the development and implementation of scoring models and systems. Eva was previously at Deutsche Bank, and Fair, Isaac International, where she managed the development of scoring systems for the European, Middle East Africa region. She has a BSc (honours) degree in Business Studies from the University of Sheffield and an MSc. in Operational Research from the University of Birmingham. Member of the Institute of Credit Management, the Operational Research Society of South Africa and the South African Statistical Association.

Wayne Pearce has worked in credit scoring industry for 22 years, through which he has acquired a wealth of knowledge in the field. Wayne spent eighteen years at Lloyds Bowmaker Finance where he held a wide range of roles from Senior Credit Analyst to Underwriting Manager. He then moved to Scorex (UK) Limited where he was Business Development Manager, responsible for identifying and developing new market sectors. Wayne joined Neural Technologies in 1998, where he is utilising his knowledge from both sides of the credit scoring industry. He is currently employed by the Derbyshire Building Society.

David Poole has ten years experience in the Risk Management area, the last seven of which have been at IKANO Financial Services. Dave has been involved in scorecard developments throughout Europe, including developments in the UK, Germany, Denmark and Norway. He is currently Head of Credit Development at IKANO with strategic responsibility for credit policy and decision support.

Simon Trupp is a senior consultant at PIC Solutions and has over 8 years of risk management experience in scoring model development, portfolio analysis and management techniques within the financial services industry. He provided strategic consulting at Egg and project managed the internal scorecard development software now utilised by HSBC Bank. Previously Simon worked for Fair , Isaac International and HSBC Asset Finance. He holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering from Sheffield University.
